Title: The Amber Spyglass

Author: Philip Pullman

Rating: 5 +

The Amber Spyglass is about a boy and a girl named Will and Lyra. They go through many tough challenges and are part of four conflicts all happening at the same time!

These are the conflicts:
Conflict 1: Good vs. evil forces

Will and Lyra are involved in the main war by helping get the ghosts out of the world of the dead and letting them fight the Spectators. Spectators are lifeless soul sucking creatures that came from oblivion. The good forces are creatures that try to protect Will and Lyra. Will and Lyra are trying to preserve the dust. The dust the conscious of life and the Amber Spyglass allows you to see the dust.

Conflict 2: Will and Lyra vs. the Church

The Church thinks that Lyra is bad and they want to kill her. Lyra has special knowledge that nobody else ever had, she could read the alethiometer fluently. The alethiometer is device that allows the holder to ask questions, if they how to ask the question, and it always tells the truth.

Conflict 3: Good forces vs. the Spectators
Good forces try to keep the Spectators from desouling them.

Conflict 4: Evil forces vs. the Spectators

Evil does the same thing as the good forces with the Spectators. The reason that they ward off the Spectators is because they want to preserve their own soul.

Will and Lyra have to face these challenges and more in The Amber Spyglass. I have this book too many times to count, its that good. You can even find out what happens between Will and Lyra!

PS. This is the third book of the trilogy His Dark Materials

Title: Davy Crockett, Defender of the Alamo

Author: William R. Sanford and Carl R. Green

Main character: Davy Crockett

Setting: Davy Crockett's life

Why is Davy Crockett famous?
Davy is famous for running for congress ten times, signing up as a solider for about 1,890 days, defending the Alamo until the end, and other things. At the Alamo the Texans were outnumbered 2,400 to 183! The Mexicans were led by Santa Anna.

Davy was kind when he let his entire family live by him. Davy was helpful when he did a lot of social service like building a new road and other things, this shows he is a hard worker. Davy was honest because he admitted he lies; like he said he can spout like a volcano and swallow a man whole.

Rating: 3

SCIENCE BOOK REPORT

ABOUT THE BOOK
The book I read was Reptile it is part of the Eyewitness book series. It talked about all reptiles. The author is Colin McCarthy.

REPTILE GROUPS
Turtles and Tortoises
Some differences between turtles and tortoises are there shells. A turtle has a flat shell and a tortoise has a humped shell. Soft-shelled Turtles and Red-eared Terrapins live in Texas and other wetlands, while Giant Tortoises live in the Galapagos Islands.

Snakes and Lizard
Snakes and lizards make up the main grope of reptiles. One of the interesting things about them is it is believed that snakes evolved from lizards! Some lizards are known for when they lose their tail they re-grow it!

Crocodile Clan
Crocodiles and their relatives are farley large, but is not true with the Caiman witch is relatively small as to being to the alligator side of the family. The Gavial has a long snout even though it has weak jaws.

Tuataras
Tuataras are living fossils, their relatives dyed out millions of years ago. They live on a few islands off the coast of New Zealand. They have the longest incubation period of any reptile.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
BOOK
My favorite part of the book was when they talked about the bones. I liked that part because it showed the pictures of the bones and gave interesting facts about them. My favorite reptile was the Anole Lizard because it is so cute and I have two of them. I recommend that if you want to learn about reptiles you should get this book because it has good information.
HOME
I have four types of reptiles at home a skink, a snake, two geckos, and two anole lizards. Their fun to watch when their out and running about. I feed them crickets. It's fun to make habitats for our reptiles to live in.
